Supporting the Sanctuary: High-Capacity Wells for Voznesensk

Voznesensk is a city defined by its strategic importance. Located just 30km from the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant, this community of 36,000 successfully halted a major Russian advance in March 2022. Since then, it has transformed into a critical "Frontline City," acting as a primary shelter for thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) fleeing Kherson and Mykolaiv.

The Infrastructure Crisis The city’s dual role as a defensive shield and a refugee hub pushed its infrastructure to the breaking point.

  • Combat Damage: Constant shelling damaged over 700 buildings and destroyed critical communal water and sewage facilities.

  • Capacity Overload: The influx of IDPs overwhelmed the remaining water network. The system, already battered by rockets, simply could not support the population surge.

The Engineering Solution To prevent a public health collapse in this vital hub, Bird of Light Ukraine—backed by Diamondback Energy—deployed drilling teams to the settlements of Rakove and Novohryhorivka.

We successfully completed two high-capacity boreholes.

  • Industrial Flow Rate: These wells function at a combined flow rate of 11 cubic meters per hour. This is not a trickle; it is a substantial municipal supply capable of stabilizing the grid for the broader community.

  • Restoring Capacity: These new water sources alleviate the pressure on the central network, ensuring that both long-term residents and the IDP families they host have consistent access to safe drinking water.

Partners in Resilience Voznesensk held the line for Ukraine; we are proud to help hold the line for them. This project was executed with the funding of Diamondback Energy and The World Orphan Fund.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it.
