Questions About Our Work
FAQ
Financial Transparency & Impact
-
How is my donation used?
We view every donation as an investment in Ukraine’s future. Rather than spending small amounts in isolation, we pool donations to fund larger, transformative projects—such as drilling new water wells, equipping hospitals, or launching advocacy campaigns. Our goal is to create the greatest level of impact per dollar spent. By aggregating resources, we can solve systemic problems rather than just applying temporary bandages.
-
Does my money go directly to Ukraine?
Yes, and more importantly, it stays there. We strive to spend almost 100% of our program dollars directly within Ukraine. We intentionally source supplies, labor, and logistics locally whenever possible. This strategy ensures that your donation does double duty: it provides immediate relief to those in need, while simultaneously injecting capital into the local economy, supporting Ukrainian businesses, and helping the nation rebuild its own capacity from the inside out.
-
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Bird of Light Foundation is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by U.S. law. You will receive an immediate email receipt for your records upon donation. (EIN: 93-4194744)
Our Operational Model
-
How is Bird of Light different from other aid organizations?
We operate as "on-the-ground operators" using a model similar to private equity, but for humanitarian aid. We identify the most effective local Ukrainians already doing the work, and we "invest" in them with Western resources, oversight, and supply chain expertise to scale their impact instantly. This allows us to remain agile and work across multiple verticals—from food security to infrastructure—without the slow bureaucracy of large institutions.
-
How do you vet the local partners you work with?
his is the core of our "Catalyst" model. Because our founders and team operate on the ground, we don't just write checks to strangers. We personally identify, vet, and monitor the local organizations and projects we support. We apply Western standards of reporting and transparency to every project, ensuring that we are bridging resources only to those with the integrity and capacity to deliver results.
Logistics & Engagement
-
Do you accept physical goods (clothes, toys, canned food)?
Generally, no. Shipping physical goods from the U.S. is slow and expensive. It is far more efficient for us to use financial donations to source supplies closer to the need or directly within Ukraine. This supports our commitment to the local economy and ensures we deliver exactly what is needed, instantly.
-
Can I volunteer with Bird of Light?
We are fortunate to have a dedicated and capable team of Ukrainian volunteers ready to assist on the ground at any given time. However, our mission is to bridge resources and expertise, which means we are always looking for high-level partners. If you have a special skillset (such as medical expertise, engineering, or logistics) or a strong network of connections and are looking to make a meaningful impact, we invite you to engage with us. We always welcome the conversation to explore how your unique strengths can support Ukraine's transformation.
-
I designate my donation to a specific project?
Our model relies on agility. We ask that most donors give to our General Fund, which allows us to direct resources instantly to the most urgent "gap"—whether that is an emergency generator today or water infrastructure tomorrow. However, for significant contributions, we are happy to discuss directing your investment toward one of our three specific pillars (Relief, WASH, or Voice).
-
Why should I become a monthly donor?
War creates unpredictability, but rebuilding requires consistency. Monthly donations give us the stability to plan long-term infrastructure projects—like drilling water wells or advocating for childcare reform—that take months to complete. By giving monthly, you aren't just helping Ukraine survive an emergency; you are helping us lay the foundation for a thriving future.
Ways to Give
-
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, bank transfers (ACH), and checks. We also accept donations of Stock/Securities, which can offer additional tax benefits for donors. Regarding Cryptocurrency: While we do not standardly accept crypto, if this is your preferred method of giving, please contact us directly and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
