Irpin: Building a Home for Orphans
Orphans Pillar: Relief & Community Recovery | Partner: Save Ukraine | Status: In Progress
In partnership with @saveukraine.official, we are proud to announce that construction is officially underway on a specialized foster home in Irpin. This project represents a vital step in moving children out of the state system and into loving, family environments.
From Institution to Family As Ukraine pushes toward European Union accession, the country faces a critical requirement: De-institutionalization. For decades, the system relied on large-scale boarding facilities to house "social orphans"—children who have living parents but were left at institutions due to poverty, disability, or inability to care for them.
These children are effectively orphaned by circumstance. To join the EU, and more importantly, to give these children the childhood they deserve, Ukraine is dismantling this old system in favor of family-type care. But to close institutions, we must build homes.
This new construction in Irpin is not just a building; it is a custom-designed ecosystem for a foster family committed to raising four orphaned children with special needs.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors from the Art Unites fundraiser in May 2024, this home is being built with specific accessibility requirements in mind:
Barrier-Free Design: Spacious and modern to accommodate mobility needs.
Strategic Location: Built directly next to a rehabilitation center in Irpin, ensuring the children have immediate access to professional physical and psychological support.
Safety & Stability: A dedicated space where these children can transition from the trauma of abandonment to the security of a permanent family.
We are thrilled to report that the foundation has been laid and walls are going up. This major project is a tangible result of your support. You are not just funding construction; you are funding a new model of care for Ukraine’s most vulnerable children.
We look forward to sharing the finished home with you very soon.
