Winter Resilience Initiative: 415 Stoves for the Frontline

Pillar: Relief & Community | Sponsor: Krohn Breakthrough Foundation | Volume: 415 Units

As winter approached, the Russian campaign against Ukraine's energy infrastructure left vast swathes of the country without power or gas. In frontline cities like Kherson, Kharkiv, and Lyman, reliance on the central grid became a survival risk.

To counter this weaponization of winter, we launched a major manufacturing initiative to produce 415 heavy-duty wood-burning stoves. This program was made possible by a strategic grant from the Krohn Breakthrough Foundation.

Grid-Independent Infrastructure This investment allowed us to commission a massive run of decentralized heating units. These stoves are critical assets for three reasons:

  1. Fuel Agnostic: They run on scavenged wood or debris, requiring no supply chain of gas or diesel.

  2. Dual Utility: They provide radiant heat for warming living spaces and a stovetop surface for cooking and boiling water.

  3. Durability: Fabricated by local metalworkers, they are built to withstand the rough conditions of basements and bomb shelters.

Strategic Impact Thanks to the Krohn Breakthrough Foundation’s support, we are successfully deploying these units across the hardest-hit regions—from the liberated streets of Kherson to the shelled neighborhoods of Kharkiv and Lyman. This initiative effectively secures a "heat baseline" for thousands of Ukrainians living in the dark.
