Rebuilding the Mainline: 1.2km Grid Restoration in Stepove

Project: Water & Health (WASH) | Scope: 1.2km Pipeline Reconstruction

The destruction of the Kakhovka Dam did not just drain the reservoirs; it placed catastrophic stress on the surviving water networks of the region. In the community of Stepove, the aging infrastructure simply could not cope with the new crisis, leaving the central supply network in ruins.

Drilling a well is useless if you cannot transport the water to the people. We identified that the critical failure point in Stepove was not the source, but the grid itself.

Civil Engineering Solution Bird of Light Ukraine, backed by Diamondback Energy and The World Orphan Fund, initiated a full-scale reconstruction of the municipal water artery.

  • Scope of Works: We excavated and completely replaced 1.2 kilometers of central water pipeline.

  • Modernization: We replaced damaged Soviet-era piping with modern, durable materials capable of withstanding higher pressures and ensuring long-term resilience.

  • Restored Connectivity: This rebuild re-connected the community to a stable, central water source, eliminating the need for emergency water trucking and individual hauling.

Strategic Restoration This project represents a shift from emergency relief to permanent reconstruction. By rebuilding the physical grid, we have ensured that Stepove’s water security is solved not just for today, but for decades to come.
