Orlovo, Kherson: Essential Aid for an Isolated Community
Pillar: Relief & Community Recovery | Mission Volume: 19 Units | Context: 2,200 Unit Kherson Campaign
On June 11, 2025, Bird of Light Ukraine executed a targeted delivery to the village of Orlovo in the Kherson region.
This drop illustrates the depth of our operational commitment. While our convoys move thousands of boxes into major hubs, we simultaneously deploy smaller, tactical units to reach the "last-mile" villages like Orlovo. This delivery was an integral part of our 2,200-unit Kherson regional campaign, ensuring that even the smallest pockets of the population are not bypassed by international aid.
A Shrinking Community Before the full-scale invasion, Orlovo was home to over 600 people. Today, that number has drastically fallen.
Like its neighbors in the district, Orlovo has been hollowed out by the war. The young have fled, leaving behind a demographic that is almost exclusively elderly. For these remaining residents, the local supply chain has fractured. Stores often face shortages of essential goods, effectively turning the village into a "food desert" where basic calories are difficult to source.
Filling the Gap We delivered 19 food boxes to the most vulnerable households identified by our partners.
Security: Each 13.2kg box bridges the gap between what is available locally (very little) and what is needed to survive.
Standard: We do not dilute aid for smaller villages. These families received the same comprehensive 40,399-calorie kits sent to Kharkiv, complete with high-value proteins, flour, and coffee.
We are proud to work with VPO Ukraine, whose drivers treat these remote drops with the same urgency as major city distributions. We also thank Diamondback Energy and The World Orphan Fund for funding a strategy that prioritizes need over numbers, ensuring we reach the people who are standing their ground in the smallest villages of Ukraine.
