Kharkiv Delivery #1: 881 Units for the Unbroken City

Pillar: Relief & Community Recovery | Mission Volume: 881 Units | Context: Urban Frontline

The Drop On June 9, 2025, Bird of Light Ukraine executed a rapid distribution of 881 food boxes to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) sheltering in Kharkiv city.

While Kharkiv is a major metropolis, it is also a functional frontline zone. In June alone, the city faced a record number of air raid alerts and intensified strikes from S-300 missiles and guided aerial bombs. For the families receiving this aid, the danger is two-fold: the physical threat of shelling and the economic collapse that comes with displacement.

The Beneficiaries: Displacement in Place These 881 boxes were not just for "residents"; they were specifically targeted at IDPs living within the city.

Many of these families have fled from the heavily contested settlements north and east of the city—communities like Vovchansk and Lyptsi—where recent ground offensives have decimated housing. They have lost their homes, their employment, and their financial safety nets. They are now in Kharkiv because they have nowhere else to go, often living in temporary shelters or crowded apartments while the city itself remains under fire.

Operational Impact

  • Volume: 881 households received a full 13.2kg survival kit.

  • Caloric Injection: Over 35.5 million calories were distributed in a single day.

  • Morale: The inclusion of high-quality ground coffee in these kits provided a critical psychological boost to families living in high-stress conditions.

Partners in Resilience We are deeply grateful to Diamondback Energy and The World Orphan Fund for providing the resources to keep these families fed. A special thanks to VPO Ukraine for managing the "last-mile" distribution, ensuring that despite the air sirens and the risk, help arrived exactly where it was needed.
